La Vita Italiana

We recently returned from a trip to the Mediterranean, spending much of our time in Italy. We loved it. So much to do. So much to see. So much to eat. But there is more.

The streets were filled with older adults, not rushing to doctor appointments, or sitting alone on benches, but living. Walking to the market, meeting friends for coffee (more about that in future conversations), and evening strolls. Strolls are so much better than just walking.

They looked engaged, connected and purposeful. It made me wonder: Do Italians know something about life and aging that we have forgotten?

The phrase La Vita Italiana translates to “The Italian Life.” It describes a way of living that values family, food, community, beauty and enjoyment of everyday moments. A lifestyle that brings enjoyment and supports the ideals of longevity and healthspan.

If there is a secret to ageing well Italian style, it is not found in a supplement bottle, fitness app or latest longevity breakthrough. It is much simpler:

  • Move naturally

  • Eat real food

  • Stay connected

  • Value family

  • Reduce stress

  • Find purpose

  • Appreciate beauty

  • Savor the little things

In other words- live fully.

The Italians seem to have mastered the art of living, which just may be the greatest longevity strategy of all. La Vita Italiana.

Enjoy your day,

Garry

Just a little extra-

Yes, we loved Italy: The history, the beauty, the food.

But maybe my favorite memory will be sitting at a cute cafe with my family in the tiny town of Corniglia overlooking the Mediterranean sipping a cappuccino.
Sharing the beauty and enjoying the taste with my favorite people.
Living life fully.
